With a background in screenwriting, playwriting, and teaching, Greg Machlin brings a storyteller’s eye to the college essay process. As a Writing Strategist at College Match, he helps students tap into the heart of their stories—turning life experiences into compelling narratives that resonate with admissions officers.

Whether a student is just starting their first draft or polishing their final line, Greg guides them through a process that combines structure, creativity, and authenticity.

Greg earned his B.A. in Theatre Arts from Brown University, then went on to complete his Master of Fine Arts at the Iowa Playwrights’ Workshop, one of the top programs in the country. While there, he also taught writing—further honing his ability to guide students with clarity and care.


Award-Winning Writer & Creator

Greg’s passion for storytelling extends beyond the classroom. His creative accomplishments include:

  • 7 Days, a screenplay that was a Nicholl Fellowship semifinalist and Austin Film Festival semifinalist

  • A stage version of 7 Days, named an O’Neill Playwrights Conference semifinalist

  • The Canadians, a digital comedy series parodying The Americans, now streaming on Amazon Prime
